Golden Citadel 2025, graphite on marble, 6 x 24 inches. Glexis Novoa Studio, Miami.
The representation of a grandiose panorama, often associated with the gleam of precious metals, is the bewitching image observed from the refuge of confinement or emerging shelter—like a cave. This experience refers to the multiple extreme conditions under which vast populations displaced to the peripheries are forced to migrate by necessity and survival, in the face of war or corporate agreements. This induces the materialization of new cultures through the daily life of these emerging long-lasting settlements. While the urban panorama, laden with colossal symbols—representing the cause of misfortune—becomes a source of contemplation—and certainly, aesthetic pleasure—for the very spectators who are also victims, as they rejoice in the silhouette of their oppressors’ chimera. A formation that becomes a kind of obelisk extending its reach, literally traversing the stratosphere of Earth and other planets, precipitating the mutation of a new species that contemplates the golden spectacle of the chosen from a quasi-cellular perspective.
